25.03.2010Spring Fever and The Pleasures Of Freestyle At The Fiss Ladis Oberland Open 2010
Before winter’s over, we gonna rock the Alps like they deserve it! Thus, the program of the Oberland Open 2010 at the Snowpark Fiss Ladis on the 27th of March 2010 features both freeskiers and snowboarders and this time, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is searching for the real allround talent! All motivated freestylers are invited to present their skills of kicker jumping and rail sliding and try to win the generous prize money of EUR 3000,- Under the motto "a high quality slopestyle contest including a fresh kicker and a tasty rail". As a round-off the celebration of a great day, a contest winner and the arrival of spring will continue at 21 o’clock at the After Contest Party with DJ Beestyle at the Hackl’s Kaller. To give you a special insight to the contest, the region and its scene, we’ve asked the local freeskier Harald “Härry” Juen for a local perspective.
We've positioned three rails each of the same length of 9m in the park.Exclusively for the contest, Thus a perfect setup will be provided and of course we’ll care for board and entertainment. Barbecue for everybody is offered in the chill area with a live DJ and the rhymes of MC Lix will spread decent spring moods!
Local freeskier Harald “hÄrRy” Juen told us about spring in Fiss Ladis, the pleasure of freeskiing and what he’s thinking about the upcoming event in his home town.
Hey Harry, how are you today? How was your day?
The sun is shining, the snow is soft and smooth... what else could you want? :D Today I’ve been jibbing with some dudes at the mountain. Slowly but surely I sense the spring in the air...
Please tell us briefly about yourself, who you are and what you are doing.
I’m Harald „hÄrRy“ Juen and I’m living in the beautiful town Fiss. I’m 23 years old and working as a design assistant and draftsman. My heart beats for already 6-7 years for freeskiing and I think it will still be beating for a long long time :D
Why freeski?
Why not freeski? No, I’m joking... freeski gives you the possibility and – as the word itself says – freedom to do whatever you like. You have the freedom of „inventing“ your own tricks and to enjoy the tricks of others. In my opinion the most important thing is to have fun doing it, because would it be otherwise and the fun misses out you also lose the joy of the sport.
What comes into your mind if you think of the Snowpark Fiss Ladis?
Extremely well-kept, perfectly shaped park with very nice and friendly people! ...and for sure the funny Big-Air Bag :D
Do you have a favorite obstacle?
Yes, the Rainbow Box is definitely a favorite. It’s particularly shaped for skiers as the take-off lies in front of the box and not directly at the box (as it is in most cases). The landing is spot-on and the slope in front offers everybody the possibility to reach the right speed. Great piece!
What was your highlight in the park?
The film- and photo-shooting with the camera man Daniel Wolf and the photographer Sebi Madlener. The pics and the clip turned out really great and where else than at a shooting you’re lying around in the snow doing snow angels and fooling around at the playground... it was extremely funny...thanks guys!
At the Oberland Open on the 27th of March three rails of the same length will be provided. They have already been installed at the park. Are you going to try them before the contest?
It’s always fine, if you have the possibility to test the obstacles before a contest. As soon as I have time I’ll go to the north side of Fiss and check out the rails. But I know that you can count at the QParks dudes and that they will perfectly shape the park for the contest – sweet.
What can the participants be most excited about?
About Ralf’s heartily Swiss dialect... just kidding! There will be a lot of people around in a comfortable and stressless atmosphere and the set-up will speak for itself.
Which plans do you have for the next months?
As the snow line constantly rises, I’ll head for higher regions in Austria and in August, I’m going to New Zealand for a month with my beloved... I’m so looking forward to it!
What have you always wanted to do once in a lifetime?
..flying to New Zealand! :D
Thx Harry and Ride On!
