Old rags becoming precious again? QParks makes it possible with the help of the Horsfeathers Superpark Dachstein partners. A month ago we called out the From Rags to Riches Oldschool Contest that culminates in the Dachstein Opening on June 12th and crowns the most authentic oldschool outfit with a complete new outwear combo by Horsefeathers, Blue Tomato and Adidas Eyewear!

The idea behind this special campaign was to get you into your best 80’s style outfit, take a picture and upload it onto the facebook wall of the Horsefeathers Superpark Dachstein fanpage. Some fancy shots have been uploaded by now and give an impression of what we expect for the opening day. Because it’s not done with posting photos, we want to see you for real in oldschool clothes! The ones arriving suited up in the chill area of the Horsefeathers Superpark Dachstein can look forward to brand-new apparel and accessories. As a highlight, the two most weird outfits will be announced in the course of the event day and one guy and one girl win a totally new outfit from Horsefeathers!

Moreover we’ve talked with park designer Andi Röck about the idea of suiting up in oldschool clothes as he himself will arrive in specially dressed up…

Hey Andi, are you coming to the Dachstein opening in oldschool clothes?
If my outfit arrives right in time I’ll be at the start for sure… surfin’ the snow, you know!

What’s your motivation behind?
It’s respect for the roots of snowboarding, a homage to the founding fathers and their stylish exquisite taste, memories of the base and other camps and honestly: it’s damn funny! It’s unpayable to see all your friends in these outfits and then ride together some lay-backs and vitelli-turns in the snow…that’s real soul riding!

How can we imagine your outfit?
Mh, that’s a secret! But I’ve all the stuff that was obligatory: from neon colors over shoulder pads to an extremely ugly bandeau!

Where did you get this stuff?
The snowboard was deco in a village disco until its renovation and the other things mostly from family and friends. You won’t believe what you can find in cellars and attics, real goldmines!

Compared to the fashion nowadays: Which one is better in your opinion?
Puh, it doesn’t really matter. In past times we were always glad to get rid of a certain fashion, then we’d start laughing about it and some time later it will revive in a modified and adapted way. Anyway, I could die when I see these old photos and videos – no matter if post cards, foreigners or myself. Hell, what did we wear???

Did you really ride in these clothes in the past?
Phew, luckily I’m a little to young for that. At my time we already wore „baggies“, but also those were really tight and ugly. The things with gore-tex on the butt and knees, green with purple, together with a black jacket in potato-bag-style. This was my first outfit and I can even remember the board-brand and the shop where I bought it. I can think of some really „nice“ outfits I wore...

What means authentic oldschool style for you?
Yes kids, in the past everything was better...scruffy parks, rails without side covers, tweaks and double grabs, backscratcher and methods, grabbed turns, carving (!!!) as well as simply fun at the thing and fun to try out new things and go to your limit, shredding together with laughing faces – being pushy but without real competition... just the good old times. Let us start its revival at the Dachstein Opening! Peace!
