Two things set the freestyle El Dorado Kitzsteinhorn apart: snowpark action that is one of a kind in Europe and pure freestyle pleasure! The mighty Freestyle XXL backcountry stretches from the top of the Kitzsteinhorn all the way down into the valley, with a total of 5 sophisticated routes located in convenient proximity to the lifts and it’s very own Freeride Info Base Station for maximum safety.
While in December the mountainous regions were dominated by spring-like conditions, the snowfalls of the last few days turned the Kitzsteinhorn into a powder wonderland, setting the stage for breath-taking powder sessions!
The 5 freeride routes on the Kitzsteinhorn are famed for their varied, thrilling variants. The absolute highlight is one of the most difficult and longest freestyle routes called “Westside Story”. The easier, but still intermediate “Left Wing” crosses the finely shaped Langwied area. The “Jump Run” traverses from the skiing track into the open country, providing freestyle action at its best, thanks to its natural pipes and kickers. For the “Pipe Line”, you’d better be in good shape: it may be short, but it’s humpy. The well-tried, 2000m long “Ice Age” route stretches down the whole kar, from just underneath the cable car on the mountaintop.
In oder for you not to lose the overview, the resort has founded the Freeride Info Base near the Alpincenter: the perfect service center for all powder enthusiasts, informing about currently open routes, avalanche risks and safety measures. It also checks the function of LVS avalanche probes. In freeriding, “safety first” is more than just a hollow phrase.
“The equipment of a freerider should at the very least include an LVS device („pieps“), an avalanche probe and a shovel. Sound skills and a high sense of responsibility are central prerequisites for freeriding!” Michael Putz comments, an experienced snowboard freerider.
Guaranteed snow levels, numerous routes in close proximity to the lifts, as well as a modern information system for maximum security – that’s what makes the Kitzsteinhorn a picture book example of a powder paradise well worth visiting, even if the journey may be long!
