Goggles can sometimes have their pitfalls. For some, they simply fog up or for others, the perfect view and comfort is not given. We have informed ourselves and wanna give you some important information, which will save you some nerves:

Shop with brain

Before heading to the stores, there are a few things to consider in advance:

  • UV protection: Every pair of ski goggles should protect your eyes 100% from sun rays.
  • Ski goggles must be leak-proof to protect against snow, wind and ice.
  • Anti-fog coatings are the magic word against fogged goggle lenses.

The weather sets the tone

Coloured ski goggles aren't just that-colourful for fashion purpose. Rather, each tint suits best for certain weather conditions. For example, pink or yellow tints are necessary for bad weather. Brown or grey tints are thus more suitable for good weather - they provide less colour distortion while driving and thus better visibility.

So-called photochromic goggle lenses consist of pigments that react to different light intensities – therefore, they adapt to the weather. They change their light transmission in the filter categories 1 to 3. This technology is much more expensive than like "monochrome" glasses. However, this model is worth it, because it saves a second pair of goggles, and also nerves.

Goggle structure

The goggle structure depends on the frame clip, the foam padding, the goggle straps as well as the possibility to change the goggle lenses. Note that there are 2 different frame types:

  • Full-frame: the frame of the glasses includes the lens all around.
  • Frameless: The lens sits in front of the frame. The field of vision is maximized, and the change of the lens is facilitated by an integrated system.
  • Semi-frameless: The frame is partially visible (usually on the side).

Over The Glass (OTG)

For the consistent glasses wearers among you, there are so-called OTG goggles, which can be worn over prescription glasses. They are therefore a little more voluminous and have cut-outs for the correction glasses.

Now you are equipped with knowledge, which will certainly help you with the goggles. It is always best to get advice directly in the store and take the helmet with you to try! Cheerio!
